Swift Racing06 May 2008at the Bedford 2 day race. Starting for the Swift Motorhome sponsored team were National Cyclo-Cross Champion Helen Wyman, Gabby Day, stage winner in 2007 Alice Monger-Godfrey, Sarah Reynolds and guest rider Juul Wigbold from Holland. Eileen Roe was unable to make her Swift Racing debut due to illness but hopes to be racing soon. With the team already down to 5, the girls were nervous on the start of Sunday mornings Team Time Trial. There only practise together was riding to the starts, however their nerves were not necessary as they flew around the 9.7km course in under 13 minutes, taking 41 seconds out of their closest rivals, Luciano Cycles. Junior rider Sarah Reynolds was the first home and was wearing the leaders yellow jersey for the first road stage in Keysoe, Bedfordshire. With a lot of time bonus chances on the 80km stage, team team held their own very well, with Helen Wyman taking many of the Hill bonus seconds and points, and Gabby featuring well in the sprints. This changed the GC to put Helen in yellow over night, and Gabby in second. Sarah remained in the top 3, but pulled out overnight to travel to Italy with the GB team for a stage race in preparation for the European Champs later this year. The final stage on Monday was at Millbrook test track. Its an excellent venue with so many course options its hard to know what will be waiting for you. The team were determined to hold onto there 1-2-3 on GC, with Alice now sitting 3rd. Despite their best efforts to break the bunch down, it wasn't going to happen, so again it would come to sprint. Helen had already taken the overall victory in the Hills prize and Gabby had moved into 2nd in the sprint prize. Helen backed up the teams hards work with another 2nd place on a stage, and the icing on the cake was a victory in the team prize. The team would like to thank Jon Miles and his team for the huge work they have put into the race. It was a big success, well supported on the road, and we all look forward to going back next season. Thank Jon. After a few more days in the UK seeing sponsors, Helen and Gabby will travel down to the Tour de L'aude in France, which starts on 16th May.
