We're very definitely past the closing date now but I've managed to get an extension to field size so there's no need to fret about reserves. The final startsheet will be posted tomorrow.

I thought some info. on the course, since it's new, could be useful.

The main features of the course are;

- Bridge of Alford to Mossat is an open, potentially windy, false flat section. This road was used in the opposite direction in previous Vets Champs run from Alford;
- Mossat to Glenkindie: after the turn at Mossat there's a "heavy", rolling section of road past Kildrummy Castle and then the climb of Cookshill which starts gradually and then steepens at the top as you pass between Cookshill and Glaschul Hill followed by an open, not too technical descent into Glenkindie;
- Glenkindie to Muir of Fowlis: After the sharp left hander at the war memorial in Glenkindie the road narrows to a rolling, unclassified road. The race goes over a narrow bridge then turns left on to quite a challenging section with no flat sections until closer to Muir of Fowlis. The climb to Woodside Farm starts at 14/37/60miles although you can see the road and the gap in the trees where the road passes for a few miles prior to this. The descent from the climb is steep and quite technical.
- Muir of Fowlis to Bridge of Alford/Finish: Fast run down to start of next lap/finish.

Re. the back road from Glenkindie to Muir of Fowlis, I've been over this a few times recently (by bike and car) and it is in generally good condition although there's a few patches of gravel and some minor verge damage. It doesn't have white lines and has a few blind bends so sensible riding will be necessary. However, it's a quiet rural road - just watch out for rabbits and the odd suicidal pheasant.

Cheers
Duncan

It's a great course on generally quiet roads. Duncan's info on road surface is more up-to-date than mine, but I went around the course earlier in the year with Ali and I remember thinking that it would be fine for the good wheels.

Weather forecast for Sunday not too bad considering the number of downpours I've encountered everytime I've been out this week. Metoffice predicting sunny intervals, 17degC & 2mph winds - we shall see.

Cheers
