Michael Nelson, a member of the Glenmarnock Wheelers sadly passed away in the early hours today the 4th of June at the St Andrews Hospice in Airdrie after a prolonged battle with cancer.
At the age of 31 Michael leaves behind Sharon and his three boys Luke (7), Freddie (6) & Sam (1).
Michael never got a chance to show how good he could be on the bike as rightly putting his family first and then battling illness. He was making good strides and even went to London in January to try out for a place on the GB Paralympics team before this terrible illness again took a hold on him.
His funeral will take place on Thursday the 10th, 11:45am at the South Lanarkshire Crematorium in Blantyre.
The family have requested No Flowers but would welcome instead a donation to the St Andrews Hospice who took such good care of Michael in his last days.
He was a dear friend who will be sadly missed.
Michael, May the wind be always on your back.

Terrible news about the loss of Michael. He was a really kind and genourous young man who had a developed a real passion for cycling. Our thoughts at this time are of course with his family. Those of us that have been fortunate enough to know "Skittles" will miss him.

Peter has said it all above.
Its been a privilage to have known Michael Nelson as he was a very determined and inspiring person. He had such a passion for cycling and passed that on to all who came in contact with him.
He never gave up.
Bye mate.
My thoughts are with Sharon, Luke, Freddy and Sam

Have been friends with Michael since he joined the club and always had a great time riding along side him.
I have never known anybody as positive as him and found this a huge inspiration to me especially when i was going through a hard patch myself , through his positive attitude i have regained my ("mojo").
He has touched my life on so many levels and for that i will be eternally greatful for having him as a friend.

Michael, like with many, was a great friend. I knew Michael since I was 12 and just starting with the glenmarnock, together we grew on the bike and the friendship grew. Michael was someone who was so focussed on everything he done. One thing that showed his commitment to The bike was that he was on his bike throughout cancer, the week after surgery for the umpteenth time he was on the rollers. Though close friends will remember Michael for other reasons such as the chickens on conveyer belts or his falling episodes. Like many I am out on the bike and still expect to see him riding over the backroads to meet us on the way out to strathaven or chatting to him about the bike. I will miss him very much, the best are always taken from us early.
Bye michael
