Hi All,
Points to note:
Female overall positions have changed from what we had thought on the day:
1st: Ruth Fraser-Moodie 2nd: Maddy Robinson 3rd: Brenda Callander 4th: Ainsley Turbitt
Gareth Barnes just beat Iain Nimmo into 9th (Nimmo had led all the race but was beat on the last lap). We had nimmo down as 9th yesterday.
Other Points:
I hope you can all appreciate that we had to deal with the biggest field in scottish cyclocross history and so it was inevitable that small mistakes would occur. Apologies to those involved. We are confident of the main placings, however do to the size of the field, there may be a few mix-up's further down the results.
If you have a specific issue that you would like resolved, get in touch with details (development@stirlingbikeclub.org.uk)including names/ numbers of others who were relative to you and we will look into it (but no guarantees).
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our lap counters / number shouters and time keepers - it's not an easy task, and they are all volunteers giving up their Sunday!

Yeah really well done Neil, over 180 competitors on the day, 3 races, loads of category prizes, even a food stall and a bike shop stall. You even managed to get the weather right this year |

Well done.
I think you now have every CX organiser/comm panicking that this will be the norm for 2009. I'm also thinking of some courses that will struggle to have enough room for that many riders, admittedly not all 180 are in the same race but looks like you had 101 in the main event.
Are lap counts still being done manually or is there some electronic system in place.
Any tips for the other event organisers?

Superb event, myself wife and son all raced, and had a great day. I have one query for race organisers for the rest of the league.
I dont suppose you would consider running under 8's seperate to under 12's? Just it was bit hectic with people 2ft taller and with wheels almost the same height as some of the smaller competitors..
nb i understand this would be dependant on numbers but if another 54 turn up it could maybe be implemented? |

Might be an idea if the same numbers become a regular (and pleasant) occurance to split it into two events as they do down south, seniors in one event (60 mins) and vets/women/juniors in the second (45-50 mins) - rough calc from Sunday could have been 50 plus in each event. One of the reason for having everyone together up to now is that there have not been enough of the cats to make seperate events feasible. Nothing to stop the Commissaire and organiser doing this, it would make the judges and officials life more easier in managing the events, allow all eols the chance to race and make sure riders in the mix up front are not impeded by congestion or multiple falls.

Told you I booked the weather!
We actually had 114 in the main event - prob a few DNF's in there hence 101 finished. 52 in the U12 event.
No electronic system - all manual counting on the day.

I must congratulate the SBC on a crackin' event, the organisation was top notch considering the mega turnout. I'm sure it was a logistical nightmare, but you've set a high standard for the rest of the series. Well done
I'd also like to encourage as many of the newbies to continue with the series.

To answer your question........It would be up to the individual organiser of course, but IMO wouldn't it be twice the work to run two races, not to mention twice as long for all the officials / marshalls on the day.
EOL is probably the main reason there was 180 riders on a lovely day in central scotland, all riders would probably have been EOL.
I finished on the lead lap on Sunday and can honestly say i had no trouble with backmarkers. I have in the past (with a much smaller field) but i think the majority understand the situation and respond well to a bit of communication. A cheery "i'm coming through on your left" followed by a "thankyou" seemed to work well for me. Remember the oweness is on the overtaking rider, lapped riders dont have eyes in the back of their head. |

An updated results sheet now:
- J McCallum now 22nd, everyone unfortunately slips a position.
Alan, looking in to yours.
it was a bit of a nightmare - extremely overwhelmed - lap counters had a tough job! (we had to hand write last 15 numbers as people weren't happy about not getting signed on!). Apologies for the problems this has caused.

Would it be beneficial for event organisers to post what their race field capacity is i.e. how many race numbers they own so that riders know once the sign on reaches 80 or 100 then the field is full, this will encourage entry in advance or early arrival rather than last minute sign on which only delays the events.
The other option is as 'doc' proposed, have two fields. I would rather see two manageable sized fields than one extremely large field which causes congestion and chaos (particularly at the start on some courses) but I'm not an organiser.
I think we should use this forum to try and iron out issues now rather than leaving it until the day of the race. SCX is booming meaning we are becoming a victim of our own success which is great to see.
Lets hear from organisers, riders, marshals, first aiders and commissaires, I'm sure every hint/tip will be gratefully appreciated by others.

Endorphinix - glad to hear you all had a great day out. Given the fantastic numbers of U12s who raced at Plean, we're looking at splitting the U12s races down into age bands for future rounds this year.
Rather than split feedback about the SCX series between multiple threads on here and other forums, we've created a Feedback area on the Scottish Cyclocross website. Feel free to add comments there and we'll respond where we can.
Feedback area here: http://www.scottishcyclocross.org.uk/2009/08/feedback.html
